This rare Ford Falcon XC Cobra is considered one of the most bankable muscle cars on the market. One of just 400 produced, it carries the number 202 on its dash plaque. The restored exterior of this two- door hardtop is in excellent condition, wearing Bold Blue paint with an overlay of Snow White, Olympic Blue accent stripes and its correct “Cobra” emblem decals. The interior presents in good overall condition, with some minor seat wear as expected for a car of its age.

Featuring a fully rebuilt 4.9-litre 302 Cleveland V8, with a four-barrel carburettor, linked to a four-speed manual transmission, this example drives exceptionally well. Its 0 to 100km/h performance is listed at nine seconds, with a top speed capability of 197km/h. Accompanied by mechanical documentation and a photographic log of its restoration. This sale presents a unique opportunity to own a highly-collectable Ford Falcon XC Cobra.

When production of the standard Falcon XC two-door hardtop ended early in 1978, more than 400 body shells were left unsold. Rather than scrap them, the then Ford Australia M.D. Edsel Ford II decided to capitalise on the success of Allan Moffat and Colin Bond’s crushing 1-2 finish at the Bathurst 1000 in 1977. And so, a limited-edition road car with a “Shelby Mustang” look was born that could be homologated for racing while at the same time, offer enthusiasts the opportunity to own a street-legal version of the Moffat/Bond race cars. The 400 muscle cars quickly sold and remain highly-collectable amongst “Blue Oval” fans.
