1978 saw the last of the XC Falcon model range being manufactured as they were being phased out for the new XD Falcon model. As the new XD’s were only available in a four-door sedan or station wagon, Ford Australia had a spare 400 two door shells in the factory. Step forward the iconic and instantly recognisable Ford Falcon XC Cobra. All 400 XC Cobras came in one colour scheme, Snow White with Olympic Blue livery stripes which capitalised on Moffat and Bonds 1-2 finish at the Bathurst 1000 in 1977. The XC Cobra also came with two power-plant options, the first 200 sporting the 351 Cleveland V8 and the latter 200 housing the 302 Cleveland V8. All vehicles came standard with four-wheel disc brakes, LSD, front and rear spoilers and 15-inch Bathurst Globe wheels. The 302 produced 202bhp with a top speed of 193km/h whilst the 351 produced 217bhp with a top speed of 199km/h. This vehicle is one of the very last XC Cobras built at #397 of 400. This means it came standard with the 302 V8 in automatic transmission. The previous owner was a passionate Ford collector in Victoria who also had many other GT’s in his collection. During his ownership, the vehicle had a full back to bare metal respray in the early 2000s and a top end engine rebuild whilst retaining its original trim. Today it presents in excellent overall condition and would suit the fussiest collector. An opportunity to own a piece of Australian motoring history like this seldom comes up.
