A rare find in this country, this Ford Consul Capri two-door coupe represents a real gem in the Ford UK range. Presenting in exceptional restored condition and painted in its factory pastel blue with a white roof, this vehicle looks as it would have on the showroom floor in 1962. No expense was spared during the restoration process, with the underbody and engine bay presenting as beautifully as the rest of the car. Its features were advanced for its time, with Girling front disc brakes, variable speed windscreen wipers, dimming dash lights and a cigar lighter.

This classic is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder with four-speed manual transmission. Subject to a five-year ground up restoration completed by a Ford enthusiast in 2010, having won People’s Choice and Most Appealing Car at the 2011 All Ford Day in Geelong. Retaining trophies from these events, this car is one of only a handful in this country and performs and presents brilliantly.

The Consul Capri coupe is today considered to be one of the best looking British Fords ever made. It was imported new to Australia in 1962 by the Taiwanese Government for official use at their Consulate and saw regular use until sold in the late 1960’s. Taking its styling cues from the American Ford Galaxie Sunliner and Ford Thunderbird, the Consul Capri launched in September 1961 and was designed to add some glamour to the Ford range. The styling for an English car included quad headlamps, a narrow front grille and accentuated rear fins. These cars were expensive to produce in their time with 19,421 built between 1961 to 1963. The Consul Capri is strictly a two-seater and the extended roof line provides excellent luggage space.
